The first basketball sneaker

Colchester Rubber Co. was established in 1888 as a manufacturer of high-end footwear. In 1892 Colchester Rubber Co. owner George Watkinson created the first pair of high top basketball sneakers for Dr. James Naismith – the inventor of basketball. The design would eventually become a classic American fashion statement and is the style that started it all.
